The Sutterlin script was developed by the Berliner graphic artist L. Suetterlin (1865-1917). This handwriting was taught at german schools from 1915 until about 1940. It is called "the german handwriting". My grandparents told me that they still had to learn Sutterlin at school. If you want to learn this handwriting today, you need your grandparent's help or you have to use relevant literature or webpages. And it is absolutly necessary to learn Sutterlin if you are interested in old german family documents or in church books.

I guess that you can't wait to see this old german handwriting. For a first impression I added the Sutterlin alphabet to this site.
